Driver API differences
For most of these operating systems, two types of drivers can be used: virtual COM port (VCP) driver and direct (D2XX) driver. The VCP driver simulates the standard PC serial port, enabling USB devices to communicate as standard RS232 devices. The D2XX driver allows direct access to USB devices through the DLL interface.
To find the driver to install for the device, select the type of driver you want to use(VCP andD2XX), and then find the corresponding operating system. Each driver package supports all devices except Windows 98 and Windows ME.
If Android requires a VCP driver, please refer to the following application instructions: TN 132 adds Android FTDI device VCP driver support to Android
D3XX
The D3XX driver is only applicable to FTDI's overspeed USB bridging service (such as FT60x series).
